Review of Resident Advisor @ The Warehouse Project, Manchester

Posted: November 8th, 2009 | Author: Val | Tags: , , | No Comments »

This was my first Warehouse Project night and it was a mixed bag to be honest…

The venue is amazing – as far as I understand its an unused part of the Piccadilly Train Station complex in Manchester. The place is completely made out of old red brick with extremely high ceilings and arched passage ways. That gives it a really industrial (dare I say … underground?) vibe. Projections and lights throughout the venue are a bonus. The sound in both rooms was decent, but afterwards my ears were ringing like I just left Aria.

However, musically I was somewhat disappointed. I was really looking forward to Jamie Jones and Seth Troxler sets, but both of them played very tame with the exception of maybe half a dozen dope tracks.

Claude von Stroke and Motor City Drum Ensemble were absolute garbage.

I also caught the last hour of Dubfire – very “big room techno” hard and very boring (as expected). At least he made the ladies come out.

Beyer was on afterwards, and although he played as hard, he at least made it interesting. Either way, both were way too fast for me so I left around 4 (night started at 10 – finished at 5:30) to catch up (unsuccessfully) on some sleep.

6.9/10

Next up: Cocoon @ Warehouse Project with Loco Dice, Sneak, Minilogue, Zip, Johnny D, Onur Ozer.

That should be more fun.
